PERSONAL

HOW TALL ARE YOU?

Probably the most asked question: I’m 168cm tall, pretty average for a Dutch woman. But to be honest, I would love to be a bit taller. But what I can’t solve with length, I’ll do with modifications to my motorcycles.

WHAT DOES LNR MEAN?

That’s a pretty simple one, because this is an abbreviation of my name ‘Leonoor’. When I started my freelance career I named it LNR Creations and now LNR Moto exists alongside it.

WHEN DID YOU START RIDING?

I was pretty late to the party and didn’t grew up in a typical bikers family. I wanted to get my license when I was 18, but life got in the way. It took me 10 years to finally take that step and during my first lesson I instantly knew I’d be hooked. In a bit under three months I could pick up my license and a day later my Monster 821 at Ducati Amsterdam. That was in 2018.

HOW MANY MOTORCYCLES DO YOU OWN?

The Monster 821 was my first motorcycle and for a long time I thought this would be my one and only. A few years later there was a concept bike presented at the EICMA: the Ducati Desert X and a Scrambler. The X’s headlights pierced right through me and I fell in love. I was already scanning the market for a bigger and more comfortable motorcycle, leaning towards the ADV scene as I also wanted to take on off-road riding. In December 2021 I put in my order and I picked my Desert X up in July 2022. One of the best days in my short motorcycle existence. I’ve ridden countless of brands and models, but the ones I owned can be numbered down to only two.

WORK

WHAT’S YOUR PROFESSION?

I’ve successfully completed a bachelor’s degree in Media, Information and Communication in 2013, which I’ve barely used after graduating. I didn’t feel at home in this big Dutch media world and got myself a full time job at a secondhand store for the time being. After various full time e-commerce jobs for over a decade, I’ve decided to turn everything around and become a freelancer in motorcycle photography and storytelling. You might find the long version of my story interesting.

HOW DO YOU CREATE AN INCOME?

I’ve started my freelance career by photographing interior, cars and motorcycles and it slowly shifted towards solely motorcycles and my jobs expanded. I now photograph and write articles for a variety of motorcycle companies, work together with different brands for my own channels and every now and then I still pick up some interior photography jobs. My YouTube channel has been monetised and for the near future there should be more e-commerce activities. Exciting plans and as a business owner you’re always on the lookout on how to create stability for yourself while growing your brand.

DO YOU SELL merch or photo PRINTS?

I plan on opening a webshop in the near future, with LNR Moto merch and the possibility to buy prints and/or digital files from my pictures. If you have seen photos on my channels that you are interested in, you can always contact me to check on availability.

TRAVEL

WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR ROUTE FILES?

This question is asked more and more and that’s why I decided to create a dedicated Routes page, which will soon be online. Please be patient while I figure out the best way to organise all my GPX files and how I can offer you the most complete routes in the incredible areas I’ve ridden.

DO YOU TRAVEL FULL TIME?

I can’t say that I am a full time traveler and I also don’t know if I would want to. It’s most definitely not for everyone and I admire those that are living their dream. Personally, I like to have a place to call home and with that a base to return to when I’m done with work/travel/content creation to charge my battery for the next long trip.

WHAT’S YOUR NEXT TRIP?

I could know for months beforehand, even over a year or I just decide last-minute on where to go. I’ve let go of excessive planning and I’m trying to travel more on a slow pace. My intention is to make 2 or 3 bigger trips a year. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t in terms of time, weather or budget. Keep an eye out on my Instagram and YouTube channel to see where I’m going next.

motorcycle GEAR

WHICH GEAR DO YOU USE?

A lot of times I get asked which motorcycle and other gear I use on my daily commuting and longer trips. I’ve made a list with my trusted essentials including links to the products I use. Hope this helps!

DO YOU HAVE GEAR REVIEWS SOMEWHERE?

On both my website and YouTube channel I’m very busy behind the scenes to create some in-depth reviews about my gear for you.

photo/video GEAR

what PHOTO gear do you use?

I shoot with the Nikon Z-series for all my photography and some videography. My main lens for trips is the 24-120mm which for me is the perfect combination of wide angle and zoom. I’ve never fell short in distance and I don’t have to switch lenses with the risk of collecting dust.

what video gear do you use?

I make use of two GoPro 11’s and a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone next to my Nikon. After experimenting with some gear I ended up with this combination which allows me to create a good mix of high quality b-roll and action riding shots on the motorcycle. But as you might know, tech changes rapidly and so I’m not excluding upgrades in this list.

which editing programs do you use?

Like many others I use Lightroom and Photoshop for everything related to photography. I rarely use Photoshop, but mainly to erase some disturbing elements in a picture, such as garbage on the ground, lanterns in the middle of my shot etc. For editing my YouTube videos I use Final Cut Pro and lastly I use the royalty free music website Uppbeat to grab catchy songs from for my videos.

CAN YOU TEACH ME HOW TO USE MY OWN CAMERA GEAR?

I’ve done something similar in the first two years of freelancing, where I took multiple small groups on a “field day” almost every month. Covering the basics in the camera settings and how to get better compositions for example. I’m looking into making an online course where you can find these basics and go out yourself next to a somewhat more personal approach in how I make my content with tips and tricks from real life situations.
